The birth of SpaceX
The world’s top rocket company began with a failure!?
SpaceX was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk. Its first rocket, Falcon 1, first flew in 2006 but failed; in 2008 it reached orbit, the first privately developed liquid-fueled rocket to do so. In 2012 Dragon became the first commercial spacecraft to attach to the International Space Station, in late 2015 a Falcon 9 first stage landed upright for the first time, and in 2020 Crew Dragon carried two NASA astronauts from U.S. soil, the first such launch in nine years.
